“Wow! Me and my husband were blown away with Pure Air. Randy was VERY knowledgeable, kind, and hard working. He really cared about our situation and it showed! Highly recommend this company for anyone with even a suspicion of mold.”
You walked down into the basement and it smelled like an old closet full of wet cardboard. Maybe there’s a dark patch on the wall you can’t explain, or maybe it’s just a feeling that something isn’t right down there. Either way, basement mold is common in Birmingham homes, and once it takes hold it doesn’t stay put. We can get it handled, usually in a day, without tearing your basement apart.

“Jack came out and immediately found the mold we had been suspecting for awhile. My husband was suffering from brain fog and headaches. My son had been to the ER multiple times last year because of breathing issues. Since getting the mold removed my son and husband’s issues have disappeared. I was shocked at the difference in the air sampling from before and after.”
“Scott Kennemer came to our home and sat down and explained the entire process to us. Next Ry and Dee came out and explained everything they would be doing for the day. Our situation is a 100% better — the pulmonary doctor is amazed at how much better my husband can breathe. I can’t say enough good things about this company and the employees!”
“Pure Air of Alabama came to the rescue. Ri the tech did an awesome job — I slept in my room after treatment for the first time in 2 weeks. Mold gone, breathing good, no musty smell anymore. I would use Pure Air again and again.”
“Great company! I reported a possible mold problem around 11:00 in the morning and had the room cleaned before 7:00 that night. I know that is not always going to be possible, but we had a problem that needed attention asap and they made it happen.”
“From the 1st phone call to the final visit, everything could not have gone any smoother. A gentleman came to my house for a site visit — he was transparent and made me feel comfortable with the process. Dee was very friendly and professional. I highly recommend this company!”
Visible mold on walls, floor joists, or the back of finished drywall is the clearest sign, but it’s rarely the first thing people notice. Usually it’s the smell. A musty odor that sticks around when the basement is closed up, white chalky deposits on concrete (that’s moisture pushing minerals out through the pores), water stains near the base of foundation walls, condensation on cold pipes, or allergies that flare up every time you spend an hour downstairs all point to the same problem: moisture is getting in and not fully drying out. In Birmingham, between the summer humidity, the red clay that holds water against foundation walls, and the spring storms that drop several inches in an afternoon, basements take a beating. Don’t wait on it. Mold roughly doubles every couple of days once it gets going, and the spores don’t stay put.
Basements are tricky because mold ends up on a lot of different materials: concrete walls, wood framing, carpet, insulation, stored boxes, exposed joists, ductwork, and the back of finished walls you can’t easily reach. The traditional approach is to tear most of that out before treatment even starts, which is why a lot of remediation quotes come back absurdly high. We handle it differently. Our VaPURE sterilant reaches mold on exposed and concealed surfaces together, including behind finished walls and inside any connected ductwork, and kills it on contact. After that, we apply a second treatment that bonds an antimicrobial layer to the treated surfaces so regrowth is much harder. Most basements are finished in a single day. While we’re there, we also figure out where the moisture is coming from, whether it’s foundation seepage, drainage, or a plumbing leak, so you know what to address next.
Cost depends mostly on the size of the basement and how far the mold has spread. Finished basements with drywall, carpet, and insulation get expensive fast when traditional remediation forces you to tear everything out and rebuild. Because our process usually skips the demolition, the total bill is lower than what most people expect after getting quotes elsewhere. We walk the space with you, show you what we find, and give you a flat written quote before any work starts. No hidden fees and no change orders later in the job.
Basements are where most whole house mold problems begin. Warm air rises and carries spores with it into bedrooms, kitchens, and anywhere else it can reach. We treat the basement and the connected air together so the fix holds. Every job gets independent lab testing before we leave, and we guarantee indoor mold levels will come in lower than outdoor levels, or we come back and redo the work at no cost. We live and work in Birmingham, so we know what these older homes and wet springs put a basement through.
